T2 weighted imaging

T2 weighted imaging at 24 hours following permanent MCAO showing the region of hyperintensity (highlighted in red) can be used to delineate the infarct volume and extent of brain swelling due to vasogenic oedema.  The rostral-caudal extent of the infarct in normotensive Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) and stroke prone spontaneously hypertensive (SHRSP) rats is shown below.
